Friday Farm Days

Welcome!

I have received lots of interest from homeschoolers to visit the farm so I decided to open it up on Fridays to homeschoolers as well as caregivers and their kids.  I am extremely grateful to all of you for considering our little corner of the world. Below I'd like to share my outline and philosophy as well as some guidelines that I have to follow for various reasons.  If you have any questions, please email me at chubbygoat@comcast.net.

Children walk together on a grassy path near a fenced playground.

Open Farm Visits - Fridays, 10 am until Noon

This block of time is for homeschoolers or caregivers and their children.  We will welcome you to engage with our animals and to learn a bit about them.

My vision is that this time is mostly unstructured - with learning woven into the fun and running around. I am not a teacher and did not homeschool my own children, so I am open to suggestions, ideas, tweaks and feedback.

Most farm visits last about 90 minutes.  We have it set up for the children to have as much freedom as possible.

They will have freedom to roam our paddock with the 7 nigerian dwarf goats (The Snack Pack).  The larger goats and llama will be contained behind the kissing booth for safety reasons.  Don't worry - they'll come over for treats and attention!

The mini-cows are no longer mini - so they will also be behind a gate or fence so the children can safely interact with them, pet and maybe even brush Gracie. Maverick is partial to children, so they may even sneak in a nose boop if they are lucky!

We have a small event barn with A/C (not always effective, but it takes the edge off) and heat in the winter.

We also have either the camper or a cute little outhouse available for the children as well a hand washing station and/or hand sanitizer.

I will include worksheets and some simple activities or games.

I will have to require ticket purchases to control occupancy per my insurance.  I'll post of FAQ's below and a ticket link.

For now, beginning Friday, May 22nd through Friday, August 28th, with a few exceptions.

Dates that we are closed will be blocked out on ticket link.

Groups of 15 or more

Pricing is the same; FAQ's are the same, but if you'd like to be scheduled separately so you can add your own lesson and keep your children together reach out to me.  Payment will be processed differently as well so you will require custom payment links.

I am very flexible with scheduling, but I do suggest mornings for the summer as the heat can be intolerable. Please email me with some dates and the number of children you would be bringing.  Some adults must stay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at chubbygoat@comcast.net if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I am not a teacher and plan on this being unstructured play with learning about the animals woven in. That said, I may add worksheets or little lessons as we go.  This is new to me!

You may come as often as you like, but some of the info may be redundant.  That said, most of us have to hear things more than once to retain information.  I hope to add little projects as we go.

We love dogs, but unfortunately we do not allow pets on the farm due to health and safety concerns.

All attendees MUST wear closed toed shoes at all times.  I suggest they be washable as they will get dirty.

The fee is $15 per child with additional siblings paying $5 each.  Parents and children under 2 with a paid sibling are free.

NO - parents or a responsible adult must stay with the children they bring.  Otherwise I run the risk of violating day care facility licensing laws. Thank you for understanding.

Mostly, yes.  We have had wheelchairs here in the past - just be aware with have somewhat sandy soil and gravel in areas, so a power chair works better than a push chair.

Mother Nature is the biggest challenge we have.  I'll take it on a week by week basis.  If I have to close the farm, all tickets will be refunded.

Our liability insurance limits our capacity to 50 people (paid and unpaid).  In order for me to manage this number, I need to know in advance how many people plan to attend.  Payment is collected at that time for two reasons.  One is that I would not be able to manage collecting payment and escorting people around the farm; secondly, in the past, when payment is not collected up front (or access is free) many just don't show up which results in a wasted morning for me.

No refunds, but if something comes up, I can reschedule you to a different week. No shows and last minute refunds will not be provided.
